Açao Social do Municípo

This project takes care of the poor people in the city providing welfare, substance abuse rehabilitation, education, training and work placements.

There is around 8 percent of the town in need of these services. This percentage is in poverty.

The building is located in the centre of the poorer area for ease in accessing services.

Funding and Managment

The project is funded from the 3 areas of public taxation national, srate and city. The ratio is 10:40:50 percent funding. The rotary club is involved in helping the club perform its functions.

These functions include:

Benefits and Welfare Assistance

Assistance in applying for welfare is provided here. The project will calculate how much famalies are entitled in welfare and help them apply for it.
To qualify for the welfare the famalies must engage with the other services (detailed below) to qualify for the welfare.

Substance Abuse Rehabilitation

Drugs and alchol abuse treatments are provided if necessary. This can include medical treatment and counselling. The aim is to help the service user become a non dependant and manage their addiction.

Project Family Purse (bosa familia)

There is a training programme for adults including courses on;
Health
Hygene
Culture
Professional courses such as computing

All of the courses are designed to help the service user gain skills to manage their lives effectively and safely and also to gain professional job skills to open up employment oppertunities.

Benefit Award Entitlement

Families individual circumstances depend upon the financial welfare entitlement. The award is routinely reviewed every 3 months until 2 years has expired.
A new application needs to be created at yhis time if necessary.

Work Experience

The local coffee company (mentioned in the last blog) provide work placements for the unemployed recieving welfare. Unfortunatley this does not always lead to permanent work, meaning the people return to reliance in welfare.

Partnership Working

The programme works in partnership with other social schemes to help support families and the community. There are close links with the childrens home, young persons and special needs projects in the same area.
