We have had the oppertunity to visit a Cooperative. The chairman of the cooperative is Nelson a Rotarian who Kat and Lianne are staying with in Piumhi.
The cooperative has displays for visitors about the history and growth of the organisation.
Beginnings and Growth
The puropse of this cooperative is a socio economic model capable of bringing economic development to so social well being. The system is based on getting stakeholders together where the aim of the enterprise carried out with the funds is based on the groups needs rather than purely profit.
21 years ago when the cooperative was founded there were 28 members and there are now over 5000 members and this figure is growing.
