Last night we went to a typical party of Casa de Amizade. It was a great street party with lots of food stalls and live music.
The community spirit is strong here and it made for a great atmosphere.
Things Learned:
These types of party are commpn and money raised goes to help local institutions
At the end of the month a party holds a reinactment of when the Portugese King founded the town
One of the local churches built by the Portugeses slaves is still in operation today
Today we have visited the local music school where we were given great presentations of the music they teach.
Things learned here:
The school resources are tight but they do the best they can
Funding comes from Government and donations
The school is mostly free for pupils with some tution costing a small fee
Theory is taught before instruments
We lunched at a beautiful farm that was an original Portugese settlement.
It is very beautiful and peaceful now but when it was a working farm it would have been very different.
Things learned here:
The Portugese brought slaves to work the farm and had tgeir own quarters
The owner is very proud he has preserved the history of the farm. (Unfortunatley the pictures of this are on a different camera so I cant upload them now but when we are back they will be on here)
Delivered our second presentation tonight. It went well but with a couple of technical glitches. Its difficult as we dont know whay facilities we will have before we arrive but its a skill that can be developed to be ready for anything.
Things learned:
The Rotary and Interact clubs of Camacho are very new
We are the second gse team they have proudly hosted
They have recently set up a football club for young people in the community which went on to win the regional tournament.
