My wonderful hosts have been able to provide me with lots of information about the housing market here.
Even in this picturesque town you can get a house fairly cheap.
The Government have created a new scheme to help people on low incomes get a mortgage and I have met a couple who are taking up this oppertunity shortly.
They can get a house for around $45,000 (US dollars) and will repay over 15 years. The more they pay the lower the repayment installments will be.
The Government has also introduced a higher tax band to the wealthier people to help create more funds for social and welfare assistance.
Similar to the UK schools are government funded but there are many private ones available too.
A lot of businesses here care about the communities and help by providing jobs and in some cases housing.
There is a private rental market which is popular with people that are not in a position to buy a home but the new Government scheme (mentioned earlier) will likely have an impact on this.
I am yet to find out about the really poor communities in the country but we havent been here a week yet and already we have learned so much, so I am sure I will find out more over the next month.
Just to add a bit of general cultural learning facts:
The states in Brazil are so big cultures and communities are totally different.
Mineas Gervais where we are has its own industries, foods and traditions which are totally different to other states.
