Apae School for Special Needs

We were touched today by a beautuful presentation from the staff and students of the school.

The school caters for all ages and in addition to education, therapy and recreation are offered.
The school is part funded by Government, Rotary International, donations and social enterprise.

The social enterprise is products such as note books and cards. The money made goes to the school and the students get a wage from this.

Things I have learned from the school:
Love and care is the heart of the school.
Inclusion and integration is strongly upheld.
Social enterprise gives the students the chance of a job which they wouldnt have otherwise.
The majority of the students will never live alone and the school helps teach essential day to day life skills.

This was one of my favourite days there have been many since we arrived in Brazil but all the staff and students at this school made this day such a special one to rermember. All the students had very complex special needs and the staff were amazing with the students. We had a tour around the school and some of the students gave a presentation and presented us with flowers they had made. We were all so touched by the effort made by the students and staff particularly with the beautiful presentation theatre were certainly a few teary eyes.
