The Cooxupé Corporation started out life as a bank lending money to farmers.
1957 saw the company develop into a cooperative of coffee production.

Employment Figures

Size Of Industry

The plant deals with production from 224 areas across Brazil.
Mineas Gervais produces the most coffee in Brazil. They produce 50 percent of all coffee in the country and Guaxupé produces 25 percent of this 50 percent.

This is the worlds largest coffee producer.

Best Coffee in the World

The coffee here is also classified as the best in the world.

Arabica and Conilounge beans are mixed to create the blend. This mix also decreases the cost to make the price more attractive to buyers. Aribica is the best bean and very expensive.

Cooperative Industry

Mainly small farms produce the coffee fruit and are well suported by the cooperation. The supply from small farms makes up 79 percent of the coffee beans produced here.

The farmers can also use the corporation to store their beans and sell to other buyers. They pay a small fee to do this and it covers the insurance of their product.

Support Provided

The professionals and specialists employed by the corporation are there to give assistance and support to the small farmers who provide the product to the corporation.

Workshops and seminars for stakeholders are held to educate and inform to help the sustainable production of coffee and protection of the environment.

There is an annual conference that brings 23,000 people together who are all stakeholders in this cooperative.

Its not just the farmers that recieve training the famalies and workers are educated in how to effectively play their part in the coffee production industry. The cooperative value their responsibilty to support farmers and also protect the environment and recoginse that education and training can be used to help achieve this.

Money Making

The past two years has seen a drop in the price of coffee which is creating problems in covering expenses for the farmers supplying the coffee.
The drop in the dollar and more suppliers could be a contributing factor but the reason is unkown. The effects however are known. Producers are not making money on supplying the coffee. Hence the reason for the blend of beans to lower the price as mentioned earlier in this blog.

Exportation

This is the worlds largerst coffee exporter supplying many countries including:
Italy
Germany
America
Japan
China

If you buy a starbucks from anywhere in the world you are drinking coffee grown and blended right here in Guaxupé.

Production

The production is basically the same as described in the blog where we visited Cafe Selecto but on a much larger scale. In summary the steps are:

1 preparing samples for classification
2 classification of product
3 pricing of product
4 mass production
5 distribution

New Products

Coouxupé are developing green coffee oil which will be sold to other producers of a variety of caffine based prodcts such as cosmetics and health supplements.
