lines of coffee plants - almost ready for picking
Other agricultural crops in this region appear to include pineapples, sweetcorn, and bananas from what I have been able to see as we drive around the region. They also grow sugar cane which is made into sugar and also into Cachaca the Brazilian spirit which is similar to rum or tequilla. if I get the chance I will do another blog about the different drinks in Brazil.
Around this area you will also see animal production. Cows here are split into two varieties. Those similar to European type stock which are used to produce milk and from this various cheeses made (served up at all meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner), and cows that appear to be more like the African stock with humped backs which produce the beef.
Surprisingly however are the forestry crops around the area. When I first came to Brazil I kept seeing these trees and thinking how similar they were to the Eucalyptus, this tree being an Australian native. Turns out they are eucalyptus! Many of the different industrial companies such as Nacional de Grafite have their own plantations and crop them to use in their furnaces. the characteristic of Eucalyptus to burn easily and at a high temperature being invaluable for them. They also make charcoal with the tree.

In addition to the meals Andrea has mentioned there is also two snack times where the bread and cheeses are again on offer.
The social element of life is based around food eating snacks of fried food and nibbles shared in bowls and eaten with cocktail sticks. Main meals are eaten slowly and inbetween good conversation and laughs.
