The quarry in Arcos is where the base of the cement product is produced. They quarry Silica limestone and Dolomite. You can only tell the difference by conducting a chemical test. Each type of limestone is separated into 5 other secondary products according to the granulometry. The base of the this cement is actually made from the slag generated by the manufacture of pig iron and 2.4 million tonnes will be distributed in the south east region of the country. At around 5pm each day dynamite explodes to uncover more limestone ready to quarry.

CSN predicts that by 2016 they will be the 3rd largest company in Arcos producing cement however they only have 30 years worth of quarrying left.
They are currently building a factory where only two people will be required to operate and monitor machinery. CSN have around 300 staff and 300 contractors.
The site of the quarry is hundreds of years old and has a lot of history, they have many caves which have old painting's on them.
Once they can no longer quarry on the site they will be required to plant tree's, the site is vast and still has many parts to be quarried.

We also saw some caves here across the other side of the quarry which are a natural beauty. There were some drawings which are around 10 thousand years old. The caves have also been the source of prehistoric life evidence such as dinasour fossils.
